Is losing weight one of your goals for the New Year? Are you planning to shed of those excess pounds—in order to exude that sexier and healthier “vibe”?

YES!! In that case, you continue reading…

Remember: the first step to achieving your goals, regardless what they may be, is exerting the effort to learn and understand what you need to do (yes—just like what you’re doing now). The deeper your understanding is, the more effective you’ll be at making things work.

With that in mind, let’s discuss some of the not-so-known secrets to losing those unwanted pounds—and use them on your quest to health and wellness:

1. Plan Your Meals

Knowing what you’ll be having for lunch or dinner will prevent you from overeating (and gaining more pounds). How? Well, for example: if you know that you’ll be having some grilled chicken and steamed vegetables for dinner—then chances are, you won’t be tempted to eat snacks beforehand.

The beauty of this strategy is that you aren’t really required to limit your food intake during your scheduled meals. What this does is it makes you aware of the foods you’ll be taking in later—ultimately preventing you from eating those in-between-meals-and-snacks which are actually some of the main culprits to weight gain. Remember, if you feel you are hungry; have a big glass of water first. Sometimes our mind and body can play tricks on us, so drink water first and wait to see if you are really hungry.

2. Eat the Same Foods for Breakfast

Some studies have actually shown that people who eat the same foods daily have a higher chance of eating less throughout a 24-hour period. Accordingly, this rule will hold more benefits if you do it for your morning meal, aka: your breakfast.

Oat-MealNote: breakfast, as you probably already know, is the most important meal of the day. As it is, you might want to load up on berries, yogurt, oats, and some healthy proteins, as these are known to help fight off hunger—thereby helping you avoid those unhealthy chocolate bars and sandwiches during the middle of the day. Just because you stick to some familar foods, doesn’t mean it has to be boring, add flavor to those oats in the morning with some honey, berries or bananas.

3. Do Simple and Doable Exercises

Effective exercises don’t have to be vigorous. In fact, a bit of walking around the neighborhood or some jumping jacks during your office breaks just might do the trick.

Note: this doesn’t mean that going to the gym won’t help. However, if you don’t have the time, then doing simple but effective exercises might be the solution. The key here is consistency. If you are able to move around constantly—then you’ll be consistently losing weight as well. Try wearing a step counter and endeavour to walk more steps every day.

4. Have a Break (and Maybe some Cake:-)

rsz_jose-cakeLife wouldn’t be life if we didn’t stop and smell the roses, right? Being so, you might want to reward yourself with a break or a treat whenever you reach particular weekly goals.

For example: are you craving chocolate cake? Then go ahead and eat a SMALL slice. You should treat yourself once in a while. You deserve it after all. In her best selling book, “French Women Don’t Get Fat”, Mireille Guiliano writes about how French women enjoy all foods, however they savour each bite and are very happy with just a little; instead of the huge amounts that we have been accustomed to.

However, giving yourself “occasional” rewards will actually help you to feel that you are not denying yourself life’s pleasures. The more motivated you are—the more willing you’ll be to do the things that need to be done to accomplish your goals. And the end result: effective weight loss.
